Pharmakogenetik Screening und Personalisierte Medizin

application form

The Department of Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology of the University Hospital Zurich offers pharmacogenetic screening in collaboration with the Institute of Medical Genetics of the University of Zurich. The screening is carried out using the DMETTM Plus pharmacogenetic panel microarray chip. This microarray chip covers almost 2'000 genetic variants in 231 genes relevant for drug absorption, metabolism and elimination. Additional techniques may be used where appropriate. This pharmacogenetic investigation may provide useful information in patients in whom an abnormality of drug metabolism or transport is suspected, e. g.

  • occurrence of dose-related adverse drug effects at normal doses

  • lack of response at normal doses

  • excessive dose requirements to achieve the desired effect

  • planned therapy with a drug prone to pharmacogenetic influences, etc.

Patients can be referred to our outpatient clinic for the evaluation of a drug-related problem and the assessment whether genetic testing from a blood sample can provide useful information for the patient's drug treatment. Genetic results are evaluated and interpreted in the light of current pharmacogenetic knowledge, and a recommendation for the further management of the patient will be issued.
